A dead man that washed ashore south of Oregon Inlet over the weekend has been positively identified. The body of 73-year old Kenneth Rose Sr. of Broad Creek was recovered Saturday. The Carteret County commercial fishing captain and his crew of two have been missing since their vessel sank off the New Jersey coast on Veterans Day. The two other crewman, Rose's son Kenneth Jr. and Larry Forrest, have not been found. A life raft from the 44-foot “Sea Tractor”, which went down off Cape May, New Jersey on November 11th came ashore on northern Hatteras Island last Wednesday. The ship went down as conditions offshore were deteriorating from the nor'easter earlier this month.

The Carolina Panthers have lost another linebacker to a season-ending knee injury. The Panthers placed Landon Johnson on injured reserve Tuesday and signed linebacker Jordan Senn. Johnson hurt his medial collateral ligament in Thursday's loss to Miami in his second start at weakside linebacker after Thomas Davis was lost for the season. Johnson's injury leaves James Anderson as the likely starter Sunday at the New York Jets.

Washington Wizards owner Abe Pollin has died at the age of 85. Pollin suffered from a rare brain disorder that impairs movement and balance. He had heart bypass surgery in 2005 and broke his pelvis two years later.
He was the NBA's longest-tenured owner. He began building his sports empire when he bought the Baltimore Bullets in 1964. The Bullets, since renamed the Wizards, won the 1978 NBA title. Pollin spearheaded the building of the Capital Center in the Maryland suburbs of Washington and then risked much of his fortune to build the arena in a neglected D.C. neighborhood. It began a revitalization of downtown Washington since its opening in 1997. Pollin called it his greatest accomplishment.

Tuesday News and Sports
Elizabeth City and much of Pasquotank County could face an electrical blackout last 24 to 48 hours, because of an equipment failure that occurred the weekend after this month's Nor'easter. According to a weekly memo from City Manager Rich Olson, a transformer failed on November 14th that feeds both Dominion and Albemarle EMC customers, forcing Dominion to put all those customers on the single transformer at a substation serving Elizabeth City power customers. A portable substation would have to be brought in from outside the area if that last transformer failed, which could take up to 2 days to get electricity in Elizabeth City and Pasquotank back on. Replacement of the damaged transformer is slated to be completed by next Monday.
An unidentified body was found on the beach in Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Saturday. The body of the white male was found by someone walking on the beach around midday just down from the south shore of Oregon Inlet. A life raft washed ashore on Pea Island on Wednesday, and was from a commercial fishing vessel that sank off the New Jersey coast on Veterans Day. IslandFreePress.org reports the body is one of three crewmen from North Carolina that are missing from the 44-foot Sea Tractor.
New technology has been added to the enhanced 911 system for Dare Central Communications, as a new 235-thousand dollars upgrade was implemented on November 12th. Sheriff Rodney Midgett says the new system can determine the location of callers using cell phones to dial 911, a Phase II level of enhanced 911 service, which is the national standard for dispatch centers. The new system is being paid for with the 70 cents per month surcharge on all phone numbers. Dare Central Communications handles an average of 150-thousand calls per year and dispatches all emergency services for the entire County, including EMS, Fire, Law Enforcement and Ocean Rescue.
AAA Carolinas says more people in North Carolina plan to travel this Thanksgiving as families worried about the economy choose to hit the road rather than the skies. The auto club says it expects about 1 million people to travel more than 50 miles from home for the holiday. That's an increase of 27,000, or more than 2 percent, over last year. AAA Carolinas President David Parsons said a 63-cent increase in gas prices over last year won't deter vacation plans.

North Carolina State coach Tom O'Brien says offensive coordinator Dana Bible has been diagnosed with leukemia. Bible didn't travel with the Wolfpack in last weekend's loss at Virginia Tech and also will miss this weekend's season finale against No. 23 North Carolina. O'Brien says the 56-year-old Bible will be hospitalized for 30 days of treatment. Bible also serves as N.C. State's quarterbacks and receivers coach. He's coached under O'Brien since 1999 when they were at Boston College. The Wolfpack will bring back Jay Civetti to help against the Tar Heels. Civetti was a graduate assistant on offense at N.C. State in 2007 and has spent the past two years as offensive coordinator at Division III Tufts.

Vince Young connected on 12-of-22 passes for 116 yards with a score and also ran for 73 yards for the Titans (4-6), who are making a remarkable turnaround after beginning the season with six consecutive defeats.
Carolina Panthers left tackle Jordan Gross says he broke the tibia and fibula in his right leg, not his ankle as the team reported. Wearing a large cast and leaning on crutches, Gross visited his teammates at Bank of America Stadium Monday for the first time since suffering the season-ending injury against Atlanta on Nov. 15. Coach John Fox said after the game that Gross broke his ankle, but the 2008 Pro Bowl pick said he broke both major bones in his lower leg. He had rods, plates and screws inserted and will be on crutches for six more weeks. Gross said it will take about three months to heal and he's been told he'll be ready for the start of next season.
Washington Redskins running back Ladell Betts will likely miss the remainder of the season due to a left knee injury, head coach Jim Zorn said during Monday's press conference. Betts, starting his second straight game in place of Clinton Portis, who was inactive because of a concussion, was hurt in Sunday's loss at Dallas when tackled by Cowboys linebacker Bradie James on Washington's second drive of the game. Betts sustained damage to the MCL and ACL. Zorn has also ruled Portis out for next week's clash with Philadelphia.
